Jamie Goode's wine blog

katz_chateauVisit to Alsace and Clement Klur at Katzenthal:

"The wines here, made from 7 hectares of vines on the steep slopes around the
village, were superb. 2009 Riesling and 2010 Pinot Gris from the Grand Cru Wineck Schlossberg vineyard were sensational. Klur’s regular Gewurztraminer 2009
is a rich, brilliant wine. And he makes two super Pinot Noirs: very pale in
colour, but fragrant, mineral, light and complex".

Wine and food pairings

As usual this month of may was very busy and a lot of wine lovers find the way to Katzenthal for a wine and cooking workshop, a lunch stop during a vineyard walk or a wine walk through the estate and the village. We welcomed a wine club from Slovénia guided by Okarina Tours, a business trip from Switzerland with our partner Erni Vins et Vacances, a hikking group from Brittany and Australia with ATG travel. Clarisse Zenner prepared an organic farmer buffet and some guests finished the tasting in the fresh water of the new swimming pond...with a glass of Crément de Clément !

Biodynamic wine Guide Evelyne Malnic

Evelyne Malnic selected a few wines from Clément Klur in her 2012
- "riesling Klur 2009: nice light yellow robe, aromatic nose with white fruits, grape fruit aroms, and terpen touch. The attak is lightly gaseous and the mouth reveles the same aroms as the nose with a present acidity and freshness. The finale is minéral lightly menthol taste and a beautifull balance. Food pairing with chicken tajine and candied lemons.
riesling grand cru Wineck-Schlossberg 2009: all ingredients are
together to make a great wine but you have to wait. The intens and complex nose on citrus fruits, minerality, menthol and slightly ioded. The mouth is lively,

"In Katzenthal grows the best Alsace wine"

aaagentil"On this Gentil de Katz label you find the mark of the origins of the wine: Katzenthal, or the cats valleys in alsatian. In this village grows "the best wine of Alsace" wrote Louis de la Salle, seigneur de L'Hermine, in 1674 and nothing changed since that time...Vines and wines are wellknown since the midle age. "A rose note of the gewurztraminer, fruity taste, mango, a little sweetness... Gentil de Katz 2010 from Clément Klur is very delicate and elegant . The Klur wine estate produce organic and biodynamic wines and you will find this organic spirit in each part of the domaine: tasting room, wine cellar, architecture, food and wine pairings, holiday apartments. This Gentil is perfect with starters, apetisers, lunch and cheese buffet." 'Alsace février 2012 . Denis Ritzenthaler

2011 Crémant embotteling

mise_4 mise_1 mise_3 mise_6

A really good day (flower) for this 2011 vintage embotteling of crémant. The first day of warmer weather too because this winter time was really hard. First flowers in front of the wine estate shop this morning too ! After harvest of these grappes early september, vinification, tartaric precipitation outside (the temperature was perfect for this), the machine shaked the bottles during a few hours but now they will stay quiet during minimum 12 months until disgorgement. Spring time is coming and work too...we finished pruning, next week we will travel to Düsseldorf like each year to meet some importers at the trade fair Prowein and after we start binding and so on....
